In the Industry Specific Standards the ASTM D 3574 standard describes a range of tests used to create an accurate picture of the material properties of polyfoams such as compression IFD (indention force deflection), tensile strength, support factor, bend etc. that allow manufacturers to maximize comfort and improve ergonomics. ASTM D3574 standard is used in comparative testing of various foam samples, of different densities, porosity, and chemical composition. Tests based on this standard are often performed in conjunction with more sophisticated pressure analysis to mimic the loading applied by the human body.
